A 9km or so loop, well worth the minimal entrance fee to get into the park to blow away a few cobwebs and the monotony of this otherwise pretty uninteresting area for bikers.
Mostly a scenic ride around a very nice lake. Visit Jefferson, TX if you have time. Good biker stop, Auntie Skinners, and unique shopping at the Jefferson General Store.
Texas Highway 118 leaves Interstate 10 at the town of Kent. It heads south through some spectacular desert southwestern scenery. The section of road on the approaches to the McDonald Observatory is among the best in Texas. Continuing south, the road ends at the beautiful Big Bend National Park.
This is a one way there and back route that is paved (no gravel). It skirts the south face of Guadalupe Peak, circles through Carlsbad caverns and then through Lincoln National Forest to the North end of Guadalupe Park @ the Dog Canyon campsite. This is not a smooth road but some of the best scene...
More good riding in this area to be had on the 46 towards I10, not as good as the 335 or the 337 but good for a look nonetheless. Are you getting the idea that this area is worth a visit yet? :-)
Fantastic scenary on this route as the road runs past the South Llano River State Park and gives a nice view of wildlife and the limestone cliffs. Well worth a look.
A very enjoyable ride with scarce population and some of the Texas Hill country best scenic expanse. Be prepared from few gasoline stations though, so fill up accordingly. Oh, and do not forget the best feature of the country folks, great small town country stores, biker friendly towns and some of t...
This is one of my favorite rides. Especially the CR 181 (Fischer Store Road) and River Road following the Guadalupe River. Enjoy a morning coffee at Maui Wowi in Wimberley or a beer at one of the many establishments along the Guadalupe river.
Watch for police on River Road... this is heavily pat...
This is an easy ride to just cruise on but I would advise not to try tracking this area. Lots of cages and bicyclists on the roads and sometime gravel so you want to take it easy. There is an opportunity to stop halfway at the Starbucks next to the highway when you cross over to Boerne Stage.
FM1341 : Kerrville TX - Nolan/Taylor/Callaha..., United States February 3, 2013 - 3.0
Getting bored of the interstate already. Then jump off at Kerrville and enjoy this back road that runs almost parallel to it. Nice curves and good fun.
Great scenic ride out to canyon lake. This will take you to the Air Force/Army recreation site...plenty of other rec sites in the area if you cant get in there!
This ride starts with the best BBQ in the world at Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood, TX and ends with excellent beer at Twisted X Brewery in Dripping Springs, TX.
There are a couple corners that will catch you off guard if you aren't paying attention to speed signs. It takes you through two different windmill farms and almost all of this is ranch country. A nice ride for this area.
Some straights on the way to PK. A few nice tight twisties around the lake and really great scenic overlook at Brazos River Authority. Some long straights on the way back toward Throckmorton and Albany.
Beautiful ride, awesome scenery, very very low traffic until u get on 16 then it becomes moderate. Lots of twists and turns and a few good straits. No shoulder. Watch out for deer darting into the hwy. that's the major hazard.
A long and challenging tour taking in the best and most famous parts of Texas Hill Country
This amazing 290 mile route takes in some of the best and most famous roads in the Texas Hill Country.
Including almost of the ‘Three Sisters’ or Twisted Sisters route; a selection of 3 roads in a loo...
Part of the original Texas independance trail, this 40km odd section has some nice corner that can creep up on you and some nice scenary for you to enjoy.
FM1431 starts as a four lane highway heading west out of Cedar Park. Lots of elevation changes and nice sweeping curves, but a fair amount of police. After Lago Vista, the road turns into a two lane highway and the fun really starts. The road follows the north side of Lake Travis with lots of nice h...
Ride goes from Killeen/Ft. hood down the main hwy and onto some rural farm roads. Pass the Stillwater hallow lake and continue to the other side of it to the park where there is a 7 mi hike with waterfall and wood bridge.
Killeen/Chalk Falls TX - Bell/Falls/Robertson..., United States November 5, 2010 - 4.0
Nice easy ride to Stillhouse Hallow Lake. Crosses two bridges and stops at Chalk Falls park, free admission 5mi trail with waterfall and suspension bridge. Passes lots of farms and open fields.
Rockhill/Wildcat Loop TX - Bell/Falls/Robertson..., United States November 25, 2010 - 4.0
Winding country roads, fun but not for the beginner. All 2 lane but look deep into your turns for oncoming rancher trucks and trailers.
Score 15
Hilltop to Old Alton TX - Bell/Falls/Robertson..., United States November 25, 2010 - 3.0
Winding blacktop, covered canopy roads but can be rough in places. Worth it though for the scenery, old train trestles and iron bridges.
Score 15
Sam Bass Rd TX - Bell/Falls/Robertson..., United States November 25, 2010 - 3.0
Two Lane, paved but little center stripe, good asphalt with many turns, tree canopy roads, interesting bridges. Watch for oncoming vehicles who can wander into your lane on the tight turns.
Two lane, rural. Lots of sweepers, 90 degree banked turns. Road condition is fairly good, but watch for farm vehicles and things they've left behind. One of my favorite local routes for dragging the floorboards.
You can pickup the route anywhere in the loop. Lots of twisties, elevation changes, wildlife and scenery. You will swear your in the Hill Country of Fredericksburg, especially north of St.Jo on FM677. I like to take the route counter-clockwise because you get a great view before dropping off into...
Sunset - Alvord TX - Bell/Falls/Robertson..., United States March 30, 2011 - 3.0
This is a nice little loop I take from time to time, mostly open country riding with some nice areas to ride through, little of everything from some good straightaways to some decent curves.
Roads are generally in very nice shape depending on the winters and
heavy truck usage
Although there are many many twists and turns in this area, it is in a state protected LBJ National grasslands area, speed limit is 40 mph all through this area, not somewhere that any Wanna be GP racers should even try just because it would be very dangerous to do so.
But if you want a nice relaxi...
Good days ride TX - Bell/Falls/Robertson..., United States March 30, 2011 - 4.0
This is a nice loop that anyone from the Forth worth areas would be a nice day ride for and there are numerous places that if time got short you could cut off and head back on major highways from to save time.
FM 4 is really a very nice area to ride down through almost the entire way. I would highl...
29W to Bertram - FM 1174S to RR 1431 [4 miles before 1431 is a view that is why we love Texas.] RR1431 W to Marble Falls, US 281S to Johnson City. RR 2788 to Pedernales Falls State Park. Reverse route back home.
This is a nice run for a Saturday or Sunday morning. We like to stop at the Shell station once we reach I35 to rest up and grab a mid-morning snack. The Sonic inside is quant and friendly.
EXCELLENT Ride from Huntsville to Drifters in Sam Houston Forrest. OUt to Yankees Tavern. Then a blast out to Washington on the Brazos and Chappell Chill. then to Chapple Hill and back to Huntsville through the Forrest.
San Bass Rd is one 90 degree turn after another through beautiful horse country. Careful of on coming farm vehicles and horse trailers. Beautiful deep drop into the valley just north of St. Jo reminiscent of the hill country. You drive through a large field of huge windmills just north of M...
This is a casual route that I like when just getting away from the house. It has notable BBQ at either end, and the fuel stop in Lexington is optional if you have the range. You can go either direction as it suits you. Hwy 95 between Elgin and Taylor completes the loop with little excitement besides...
A lunch hour ride. Nice roads. Starts & ends with urban....Dublin Rd is a fun little paved country road. HEADS UP: this is also a bicyclist route...there can be quite a few cyclists on the weekends.
One of the best roads in this part of Texas. A blast of open fast corners and low traffic. Long up and down straits and curves that never end. Minor loose gravel but roads are tip top excellent condition.
An excellent ride through the Eastern edge of the Texas Hill country. Hitting a creek road, two river roads, the Devil's backbone, and a bunch of other beautiful, fun roads. Mainly curvy back roads. Some roads could use repaving, but nothing dangerous. Multiple limited sight areas, use caution in t...
Great mix of corners and straights. Not ideal for serious canyon carvers, but a very enjoyable road with great views, and a galleria in the middle for taking a quick break and buy a drink or food at an outdoor scenic restaurant.
I ALWAYS see fellow bikers on this route with all diffe...
This road provides for all that motorcycle enthusiasts crave and desire. It will satisfy sport, cruisers, and touring riders. It has something for everyone. This route is across north central Texas farm/ranch and horse country providing for some exceptional scenery and wide-open vistas. I've ri...
This route is mostly rural with small villages and rural towns, winding roads with some straight stretches. Ok for about any level of rider. Gatesville is proud of their speed limits!!
Fill up before you leave Burnet - gas and drinks.
Fun rural riding for the most part quite a few twists and turns,
one stretch of four lane highway < 2 miles, then back to some fun winding roads.
Travel Main street through the village of Salado over the creek,
turn left onto Royal St. "The S...
Suggestion *do this route counterclockwise* the wait for the ferry is far shorter if any. The ferry is free. Biggest caution for this ride is crosswinds on the many bridges. The bay bridge coming into downtown is VERY high and has a nasty curve to the right as you come into down town. Beautiful scen...
Start with lunch at Coopers - Yummie, hit the trail - lots of open space very rural 75mph mostly two lane road. Morgan shady park is super quiet and the folks are super friendly. Tent and RV friendly. Fishing and swimming and kayaking in the river (last time I was there there was a kayak rental in t...
Good scenery, wide road, the loop is a park (free) where you can see the spillway and has good fishing. Great view across the lake when you cross the dam
Salado Loop Tour TX - Bell/Falls/Robertson..., United States October 26, 2016 - 4.0
Slow Sunday morning with breakfast at Johnnies Steakhouse. Yummm. Cruise through the Village of Salado see how the 'other half live' this is more of a meander than a ride. Watch for golf carts and deer ALL over the place!!!
Nice ride! Lots of country, some nice little places to stop along the way like ice houses, and antique shops. Not a lot of cops at all. Also there is a bike shop called Goes Harley Davidson and Kawasaki out side of Angleton.
There are a lot of nice country back roads of of 521 and this is one of many. As you go through Rosharon make sure and stop and enjoy a cold beverage at the local bar. Once you leave 521 it's a nice country ride with wide sweeping turns and lots of straights. The park cost $5 to get in but I is wort...
Drifting Yankee Run TX - Houston/Nacogdoches/..., United States May 22, 2012 - 3.0
Get gas at the Exxon ride up to Drifters for a cold one and a Bike Wash or wait and get the wash on your way back. Ride on to Yankees for your typical Biker Burger have another beer to wash it down but keep on mind where you just left. When your ready turn back or take a short jog to Collage Stati...
Figure 8 Back roads ride from 1488 Starbucks to Drifters Ice House in Richards, TX. moderate to aggressive ride with great twisties some straights and terrific scenery.
Just a fun and simple back roads (mostly) ride. Chill to moderate pace. Good easy twisties and some straights. Great for leaning practice for beginners to average riders.
This is a pretty good route. Starts off at Buc-ee's so you can start off on a full tank and pack something to drink if you'd like. The road conditions are very good. Lots of sections with good asphalt and smooth concrete. There are a few blind curves where you might have the possibility of a large...
Great Trail during March and April during Bluebonnet season. Snow BBQ in Lexington best BBQ in Texas. Open from 8:30 on Saturdays. Check their website.
