Yes, this is a little gem I stumbled upon last year. After I rode it again on Saturday, I thought Id keep you guys informed.

This is a great road for a quick blast down - the section between Wheddon Cross east to when the B3190 joins particularly so. Good to excellent surface quality, very quiet (even in summer from my one experience), reasonably open corners, some great straight blasts too, and isnt interupted by lower speed limits all the way from Lydeard St Lawrence to Exford - a bit of everything for a biker whod like to blast a few cobwebs away. Not so much for the views.

Dont stop at Exford though, carry on the fun along the road (its become the B3223 by now) accross the very top of the moor to Lynton/Lynmouth. This section is classic moor road - amazing views; miles of visibility, leading to rapid progress if required; the risk of animals (it is a cattlegrid controlled section); and some wonderful tight corners etc.

Things to be wary of: possible muddy roads (clean as a whistle in the summer, but some some pretty bad field entrances this time - not so surprising in January); some of the fast sections (east of Exford) are, although a full two lanes wide, bordered immedietely by embankments with high beech hedges above those (this would ordinarily not create too much extra risk, however be aware you might come accross a John Deer super tractor filling one and a half lanes coming the otherway! Gulp!); and up on the moor section I mention above there are a couple of corners that are tighter than they look, nothing major, but dont be tricked by all that long distance visibility.

Oh, and like all of the B-roads accross Exmoor, dont assume that the road you start on will be the same B-road you remain on. In this case: heading west, four miles after the (give way) cross roads at Elworthy, you need to take a right to continue on the B3224. Otherwise youll end up on the 3190 by default.

I rode this on a Saturday evening after a long day when all I wanted to do was to get off the bike. The sat nav found this as a shortcut and I really enjoyed it. Lots of corners with decent visibility and good straights to accelerate into, v little traffic. Great fun

Nice scenic run that takes you into Exmoor National park. Some nice corners and not too much traffic. Not an exceptionally good route but noteworthy nonetheless, beware of animals strying into the road.
