This is an amazing ride. Highly recommended. Flew my GSA to Frankfurt from Alberta Canada and toured 12 countries in Europe. This was the most spectacular!

agree with comments on here this is a must do.... scenery at top of Grimsel toward the valley and the Furka is staggering... if you look hard to your left the hotel next to the glacier on the Furka that featured in Dr No can be seen....Iconic region or what ! a must see.

The first pass in Switzerland and a great one to start with. Great road with some wonderful corners and nice short safe straight sections. Some magneficent scenery. From this pass, it was a must to do some more.

Linked the three passes Grimsel,Susten and Furka passes together in 2004.
I can say that it is one not to be missed on a fine day, wouldn fancy it if the weather was iffy Not much traffic when i did it in September. For scenery I would say it would take some beating.Well worth stopping at the Rhone Glazier and other photo opportunities.
My tip would be give yourself a day to do the three passes and then you can enjoy all the wonderful features.Or do two laps of about 80 miles each.

Great road, did it today (16 July 2010) very minimal road works save one corner. The side with the Dams on wasn that interesting but the Furka Pass side was amazing.

Well worth detouring from several 100kms away to do this road.

Super! Great! And ride it while you can as this there are plans which will heavily effect this pass. In short, the hydro-electric lake will be made bigger, so a part of this road will disappear under this lakes water. There will be new bridges put in place but how things will look and when this will be in effect, I do not know. This does explain the continuous road works I stumbled upon in both 2007 and 2008. Recommended, a biker classic!

Be very very careful of the construction up there right now. We got caught in the rain the day prior and had to cut short and stay the night in Interlaken around 7:30 at night. Do NOT go up this route in the dark/wet. Good route and I only wish I could have done it when there wasnt any construction on the road. Plan to hit it again next year on the next cross EU bike trip.

The Grimmsel Pass is a beautiful, ridable, mountain pass through a glacial hydro lake area. The lower north ramp is fast, smooth sweepers leading to the twisty top. The south ramp is switchbacks down to the village of Gletsch. Cross the bridge at Gletsch and the Furka Pass begins, winding up past the Rhone Glacier and onto Andermatt. Or, turn right (south) before crossing the bridge and ride the Nufenen Pass just a few miles down the road. Better yet, do them all all day long. I've ridden the Grimsel many times, in both directions and don't have a directional preference. If coming up from the North, right at the top of the Grimmsel Pass, there is a wide pull out on the right and a stop light that controls traffic on a single track lane leading into another high valley. The traffic light operates in 2 x 10 minute intervals and is worth the wait to ride the road. There are 5 glaciers and two lakes along the 10 km route, culiminating in a the second lake, dominated by a spectacular glacier. There's a fine inn and resturaunt at the end of the road. Police presence is minimal and primarily on the lower northern ramp. Overall, the Grimsel is one of my favourites. Put it together with the Furka Pass and you may just find your ultimate, ultra long, riding experience. Take some water proofs, the Grimsel can be raining - at the same time, the Furka may be dry.

Nice place to stay, but the street is a little bit like a raceway. Great for Beginners, Racers and Coffeechoppers.

Did this from the top down several years ago - it is awesome - as are many of the high alpine roads. Take a while to stop over at the top (on the right as you descend)at the memorial, dedicated I think to the workers who built the road (but it might be warime heroes, whatever). You can then have a look over the parapet at the old road/pass and see what it used to be like crossing htese high passes. Take notice also of the Devil painted on the rock wall opposite (and above the tunnel) this area if I remember correctly is called the Schollenenschlucht, but can't remember what it means. The road is pretty good too, but sometimes it is nice to stop and gape. Done as part of the Three Passes route this is a great place to ride.

Same comment as Daffy: often police controls on sunny week-ends. Because of altitude the raod is open only few months during year (usually opend at the end of mai)...

The very famous Grimselpass, a stunning combination of breathtaking mountain drop-offs and wonderful super tight corners. This road tops out at over 2000 metres and so can experience some snow. Simply terrific, highly recommended, even though it is very popular with other bikers.
