Early start, 6 am in Nelson, chilly morning with some mist towards Murchison. Hooked up with other bikers and had a friendly coffee in Murchison. Continued through stunning Buller gorge towards Westport. Sunshine, great road surface, no traffic. Westport- punakaiki- Greymouth, stunning coastal road. Little traffic. Stella day!! Lunch in Hokitika and onward to Franz Josef, Fox and Haast. Brief coffee stop in Bruce Bay. What a day 1 to the trip. Lover the diversity of the road. Day 2, Haast to Wanaka. Zero traffic, brilliant day, sunshine zero coulds. Spectacular views onto lake Wanaka and lake Hawera. Quick hike up to Mt. Roy and a dip in lake Wanaka to cool off. Onward to Tarras-Omarama and a wee break in Tekapo. Blue skys and purple Lupins along side the road made this a favourite section of the trip. First clouds, wind and some Drizzle were encountered after Buke Pass. Pulled up in Geraldine for the night. Day 3, Early start in Geraldine, breakfast break in Darfield and some x-mas shopping in ChCH before hiding north. Stunning cracker day, 28 degrees. Jacket had to come off. Stop for an ice cream in Hamnmer Springs before continuing my trip north to Nelson. Had a wee break after Murchison at St Arnaud turn off and a wee sleep under a tree. Arrived safely back in nelson with a massive smile and another great experience.
