The road is now paved all the way as of 2013. Great ride and good food at Port Renfrew at the new restaurant at the harbour GarthA
This was a logging road only a year ago that been upgraded with paving recently. There were still a few miles of dirt (good condition) but lots of twistees. Stop at the big tree rest stop to see a collosal tree! Road occasionally narrows to a lane and a half. Watch for occasional logging trucks in these sections as there will not be much room left. Starts cold on the coast and warms up quickly as you get closer to Cowichan. No fuel along the way (no nothing along the way actually) but fuel, pubs and restaurants in Lake Cowichan. Make a great loop ride from Victoria to Sooke to Renfrew to Lake Cowichan to Duncan and back to Victoria.
The beginning of the route at Port Renfrew showing the direction where the route goes.
This is the big tree. The signage isn obvious. Point of Interest is what the sign says and its only a 2 min walk off the road. A must see!
