This is a fun road, and a great run to Loomies bike friendly cafe. It's bike night till 9PM on Wednesdays too loomies.co.uk
rode this for the first time, agree with bonytony- good variety. great road, even at legal speeds. the little villages breaking the route up just make you love the national speed parts even more. can't wait to go back when it's not damp & dull. well recommended
As I can ride in France or Spain every week end I have to make do with this one! Its not bad although latley has become infamous for unmarked police bikes on Sundays, personaly I don think Ive ever seen any police on it. Over the last couple if years several of the national speed limit zones have been reduced to 50mph. Make sure you overtake any slow traffic before the golf course at Easebourne as there are solid white lines and if the road is clear it is a fantastic blast through there. When heading west my favourite part is the blast from Petersfield to the Meon Valley, before stoping for a cup of coffee in Loomies cafe. Carefull if you turn south onto the A32, if seen lots of police in the 30mph villages
One of the best bit`s of public road in the south only spoilt by farm traffic & the odd unmarked scooby/evo/BMW so keep your eyes peeled if your giving it some beans !!
I haven ridden this road for a number of years since leaving the South for East Anglia. Pre the LAs double white frenzy in the mid 90s this was probably the best road in the south all the way from Stockbridge, Hants to Maresfield, Sussex. We used to get up at 3am in the summer, race down the A30 to Stockbridge then ride the whole road with no Police about before jumping on the m25 to work at 6am. Will have to come back soon and try it again. Mark.
One of the most interesting routes in south-east.
A really fast road with plenty of really nice bends to keep you busy. This has to be one of the best roads in the South / South East area that I have tried.
I ride this route regularly to dial my suspension and blow out the cobwebs. The stretch from petworth to billingshurst is exceptional in both directions, watch out for farm traffic on the long straight out of petworth, it is better to go right at the roundabout and then cut back around to the east side of the town. There are some excellent roads linking up the 272 around petworth, its best to explore. The road then goes through the best, most smoothly surfaced twisty stretch of road i have yet ridden. Keep it in 4th and just focus on those lines. Enjoy. ps watch out for the bmw carcass on one of the apexs through the trees.
I really enjoyed this one yesterday, it reminds me of what biking used to be like :-)
this is part 3 of this road if you start at Winchester. Winchester to Meon,Meon to Petersfield,Petersfield, to Haywards Heath.Even if you ride this route at the speed limit you will know why you parted with the cash for your bike,a great road to ride with mates. If you don,t finish this ride with a smile give up riding a bike and go and count train numbers!!!.
Good fast road. Only prob is the badly placed double whites - they weren't thinking of bikes when they put them in!
Chichester to Box Hill cont. This is a short blast along the A272, from Petworth to Billingshurst and does make up for a nice fun ride. It's quick, mostly easy to see whats going on and again a good combination straights and bends with a few roundabouts thrown in for extra enjoyment.
This is a nice piece of road, which combines all types of riding skills - Fast corners and slow Sharpe right-handers
Coming up to the end where it meets Winchester
