Took this root on my way home from Gaydon to Watford - diverted over to Towcester just to check this out. It did not dissappoint, the road surface on the first part of the leg from Towcester is not very good and it is busy on a Saturday afternoon but as mentioned i only saw 1 speed camera all the way to Aylesbury and it was turned the wrong way. i was pre-warned and so treated it with respect. There is a mixture of open straights, twisties with full visiblity and blind crest bends.
A bit of a letdown (but then I just came down from Scotland and the Dales). Buckingham was a nice town, though.
Probably my favourite road within easy reach of London. Has some nice fast flowing sections and some nice elevation changes to keep you on your toes! Only downside is the numerous farm access roads and crap on the road from farm vehicles.
This is a favourite of mine, but i tend to head towards Milton Keynes at Buckingham as that road is good also and then get to play on the numerous roundabouts in and around MK. Loads of speed straights followed by hard braking, good open roundabouts and more hard acceleration. Always good for a little racing and always some boy racer in his little car looking for fun also. Not that i condone such activities but it is impolite to refuse an open invitation to have fun.
Did this route this afternoon from Aylesbury to Buckingham. Great scenery, nice tight bends and some lovely villages. Great hump-back bridge as referred to in a previous submission. No speed cameras and no Police seen, even during rush hour.
I've rode this one in both directions a few times now and I love it. You need to take care as there are plenty of hazards to watch out for. The road is well signposted though. You are often reminded of the amount of accidents there have been there "including motorcyclists"! Gets slippy in winter in parts, even on fairly mild days. Fun, and close to London, which is rare.
Note that the best way past Buckingham is to turn *left* at the Old Gaol, right onto the ring road then left towards Aylesbury at the Tesco roundabout.
Please note that the are two other built up areas on the route after Padbury which should be shown courtesy: Winslow & Whitchurch.
I've ridden this route once at night and made a mental note to do it again during the day. Lovely bendy road good surface and there are flashing cats eyes with l.e.d.s in them!
This ride is my favourite! Starting at Towcester, quick thrash through to Whittlebury then the fun starts, flatout for the lads out of the village past the golf course leading in to about 4 miles of tightish bends and small straights, through Akeley and into an open 100mph left and a couple of miles into Buckingham. Turn right at the Gaol, left at the mini roundabout past the only speed camera (facing the wrong way!)and keep going. Exiting Buckingham leads into scenic open roads with few miles of easy riding, about a mile after Padbury on a bend is the Folly pub (8pm every thursday bike meet, quite friendly), exiting Adstock there is a nice hump/bridge that offers air at anything over a ton, now you have about 15 miles of open fast bends and straights with good grip and plenty of safe overtaking to play on!! Have fun. gsxrboy
Nice run, lots of flowing corners, beware that the hump back bridge between Winslow and Adstock can catch you out (or be fun depending on your viewpoint!)
This is a very nice route, particularly as nice roads are hard to come by in this area
A very nice stretch of road with mostly good visibility, the highlight for me is just after Winslow. Beware of some undulations near Akeley and some police in the Winslow area. Enjoy!
