I discovered this road this summer nearly by accident. We were attempting to keep some altitude and stay out of the heat of the upper San Joaquin Valley and spotted this obscure road on Google maps. What a pleasant surprise! This might better be described as one of Americans \"lost highway\" but it´s not really a highway. Leaving Macleod you are treated to some distant views of Mt Shasta. Most of this road traverses US Forest land with some open grazing so be on the look out for cows on or just off the road in some areas. Continuing on you are soon in the pines and the temp drops nicely until it connects to Hwy 89. Maybe the best part is if you see another car/truck or motorcyclist that will be one more than we saw. A real treat of a road in the heat of summer and it´s all yours.
