One of my favorite rides in the area. The route is in a river valley with the river viewable several times. There are trees on both sides of the road for a lot of the route. About half way through the route is the historical Harkin Store, a state historical site. You will usually meet other bikers riding this road. The only real hazard is wildlife occasionally, mainly deer, especially towards dusk. Fort Ridgely at the end of the ride, is a state park (need park sticker to enter) and state historical site. It was the site of several battles during the Dakota War of the summer of 1862. For an alternate return ride, take Hwy 4 to the top of the hill then right on Cty Road 5, also known as the Fort Road. Someone has already entered that route on the site. Another nice motorcycle road although not as scenic in my opinion. Once you get to the state park, take the right fork. The left fork is tempting but the pavement ends in about a mile then the road turns to gravel.
