I rode this route last summer on a beautiful summers day. Due to getting stuck behind traffic I ended up playing catch up with my buddies. This road was the highlight of my whole Scotland trip. Road surface was average to start with but some sections are just perfect. The last section towards Mallaig seems to be new and the bends are just perfect sweeping curves (not a typical british corner ie. tightening up mid way through) allowing lots of scraping of pegs etc. Best part was finding out, just outside Mallaig, that my buddies had actually pulled up to wait for me and had saw me ride past them and they had been playing catch up with me ... a full 20 mins before we were reunited!!!!
TallaI strongly agree with this having ridden it as recent as this September. A word of caution though; there is a short twisty section (say 3 miles long) north of Arisaig that passes through a Pine Wood where the road surface is diabollical being heavily pitted and rutted. As a result all users, bikers especially need to take special care because everyone using this section is trying to find the least bumpy way through it so that an already narrow section can seem especially narrow as cars and bikes weave to avoid the ruts and holes.
Reg InaldA very nice route the coastal location providing some beautiful views but there are also a lot of very nice corners with generally pretty good conditions. Destination of Mallaig could be of interest also as there are ferries available to go to numerous other locations including some of the Scottish islands.
