The ride is best started from Wakefield. The villages of Union, Sanbornville, Wakefield Corner, South Wakefield, East Wakefield (Woodman and Burleyville), and North Wakefield comprise what we know as Wakefield. It started with six stagecoach lines merging and several inns and taverns were built to accommodate the traveler. Most residences and other buildings here were built between 1770 and 1816. and many are still standing. After the arrival of the railroad in Sanbornville in 1871 the stagecoach lines slowly died out. But that beautiful road, Route 153, still runs along the border of Maine and New Hampshire. It slowly winds along 4 of the 7 lakes in Wakefield. It runs down and makes some steep corners to circumnavigate each lake.

There are many olde shoppes along this run, when you come through Effingham, check out the place called Taylor City, population 8. You can´t miss it as the road makes a 90 degree corner and you have to slow down for the turn. Waterfalls, rolling hills and cool, clear creeks. After another 20 minutes you ride into Ossippe, more rock filled rivers and great Ice Cream shops. Soon, you will roll into Crystal Springs and then more picturesque lakes. Now you are coming into the foothills of the White Mountains. Conway Village has some great Mexican food, try Cafe Noche. It´s only 200 yards to your left when you come into the junction at 153 and 16. Another great ride goes to the right. I´ll write about it next time I head north.
