This is a one way there and back route that is paved (no gravel). It skirts the south face of Guadalupe Peak, circles through Carlsbad caverns and then through Lincoln National Forest to the North end of Guadalupe Park @ the Dog Canyon campsite. This is not a smooth road but some of the best scenery in the area. If you're not afaid of some gravel there are a multitude of scenic offshoots from this route.
